Educating children BIRtH through SEVENTH gradeWhat We Offer
UPPER GRADE SCHOOL 5TH-7TH
Our upper grade school program, which includes grades fifth through seventh is built upon a call and a commitment to academic excellence and fosters the increasing independence of our students. With small class sizes (12-14) and multi grade learning opportunities we are afforded the ability to provide continuing support, engagement, and challenge within a nurturing environment.
Highly qualified teachers employ a variety of differentiated instructional teaching strategies to unlock the full potential of each student. The core academic subjects of language arts, mathematics, science and social studies are complemented and enhanced by specialist classes in art, music/performing arts, literacy support, library, Spanish, STEM and physical education. This wide range of academic and artistic enrichment activities provide rich opportunities for our students to serve, lead and learn, both at school and in our community. Our programs and curriculum are continually evaluated, updated and customized to meet the individual academic and emotional needs of our students. As our students continue to develop, they are offered additional opportunities through our various clubs and organizations including, but not limited to Destination Imagination and Student Leadership.
A challenging curriculum invites students to discover the world around them and think critically about it. Our goal is to educate and inspire our upper grade students to lead lives of purpose and transform the world. Students are exposed to a wide variety of experiences that support their intellectual and personal growth and also prepare them to secondary schools with confidence. We believe that the complete education of a child should inspire their hearts to promote a peaceful world. We strive to offer a well-balanced, technology-rich, and dynamic educational program that challenges both the intellect and the imagination in a safe, supportive and nurturing environment. Our students become young people of character who are also critical thinkers, effective communicators, respectful collaborators, and resilient problem solvers in their learning and their lives. Sherwood graduates leave us as whole, self-disciplined, ethical beings who are well prepared to pursue, confidently, the next stage in the journey of their lives.

Lower Grade School Kindergarten-4th
Our lower grade school program which includes grades kindergarten through fourth concentrates on the acquisition and mastery of the basic skills in core subject areas. In traditional self-contained classrooms, teachers lead their students through explorations and studies in mathematics, phonetics-based reading, science, and social studies. In addition, students will receive fun and interactive Spanish instruction, building a foundation that will help them develop language fluency as they continue their studies in later years. The core academic subjects are also complemented and enhanced by specialized classes in art, music/performing arts, literacy support, library, STEM, and physical education.
Continuing with our philosophy of learning by doing, our hands-on and integrated curriculum for our lower grade school provides a solid foundation for students, not just academically, but also socially and emotionally. Our programs and curriculum are continually evaluated, updated, and customized to meet the individual academic and emotional needs of our students.
Highly qualified teachers employ a variety of differentiated instructional teaching strategies to unlock the full potential of each student. In addition to a strong academic program, our teachers nurture the development of the whole child and work to build self-esteem by valuing each child’s unique qualities. It is the goal of every teacher to instill a love for learning and that each child leaves their classroom a confident, responsible, and successful person ready to accept the challenges throughout the rest of their scholarly journey. With small class sizes of twelve students, personalized attention, and stimulating instruction, we ensure children are well prepared, mentally, and emotionally.
